  • Nicaragua Finca San Antonio

Nicaragua, dubbed the "land of lakes and volcanoes," boasts exceptional coffee due to its diverse microclimates and fertile soils. Coffee's journey began with Spanish colonists in the 1800s, establishing it in regions like Las Segovias, Matagalpa, and Jinotega, celebrated for their volcanic terrain. Despite historical challenges, including political unrest and Hurricane Mitch, cooperative efforts emerged, breathing life into the industry. Today, coffee sustains around 45,000 families and constitutes 8% of Nicaragua's exports. The majority of growers are smallholders who tend to coffee alongside staple crops like corn and beans. Notably, almost 95% of Nicaraguan coffee thrives beneath the shade of native and exotic trees, fostering biodiversity and soil health. At Finca San Antonio, nestled in the Matagalpa region, coffee is cultivated in harmony with nature. The farm's agroforestry systems protect cloud forests and local wildlife, resulting in high-quality beans. In fact, an Obata Natural from Finca San Antonio earned recognition in the Nicaragua Cup of Excellence, underlining the success of this sustainable approach.
