  • Peru La Lima from organic farm

Las Pircas, a farm in the village of La Lima, located in the Cajamarca region of Peru, produces high-quality, organic coffee. The farm, owned by Luz Delina Tantalean Fernandez, was discovered by Alpes Andinos, their exporting partners in Peru, for its excellent quality. As a member of Alpes Andinos since 2021, Luz has found great benefits, including receiving higher prices for her high-quality coffee and training on how to improve yields.

Las Pircas is named after small rustic walls made with small stones that are traditionally used in Peru. Farmers in the region work in 15-year rotations, focusing on each variety individually. When a plant reaches the end of its life cycle, it is cut back using the ‘Zoca’ practice, stimulating the emergence of new growth. Soil analysis is regularly conducted, and organic fertilizers are used. The harvest period spans from July to November, and the coffee processing techniques are tried and tested methods, often passed down through generations. The coffee is selectively handpicked, floated in cool clean water, fermented, pulped, and dried in the open sun on raised beds for 20-22 days. Luz then delivers the coffee to Jaen, the headquarters for Alpes Andinos, to be hulled and prepared for export.
